The first Toyota Corolla FX16
was produced at NUMMI in September 1986. In February 1987, NUMMI reached
its first major production milestone of 300,000 cars. To commemorate
the milestone, a cherry tree was planted in front of the plant to
symbolize growth and stability of the company. Car and Driver magazine
called the FX16, "a worthy achievement." The last FX16 was
produced in September 1988. That same month, NUMMI began producing
the Toyota Corolla four-door sedan.
In 2004, NUMMI built over 168,000 of this popular, high-quality
vehicle. The Corolla is also built in Toyotas
Cambridge, Ontario plant. |
