FAQs and tips
for the mobility impaired
Where to go:
When you arrive at the plant, the guard at the main gate (Gate 5)
will direct you to visitor parking and the Tour Center.
Allow enough time:
Allow 5-10 minutes to find parking, walk to the Tour Center and check
in. Allow extra time for large groups, seniors, and/or using restrooms.
If you are late, you may miss the video. If you have not checked in
5 minutes before the tram leaves, your seat may be given to someone
else.
Walking distance:
Handicapped and visitor parking is located directly in front of the
Tour Center. If these are full, parking and walking distances are
similar to a large mall.
Steps:
There is a ramp into the building if you cannot manage the steps.
There is one step onto the tram (about 13 inches).
Wheelchair access:
Visitors who are unable to exit a wheelchair can be accommodated by
prior arrangement. Please click on the "I am restricted to a wheelchair"
link when making a reservation.
Minimum age:
Visitors must be at least 10 years old. School groups should be 5th
grade or higher.
Group size:
We can accommodate groups up to 25. The 10:15 tour can accommodate up to 50.
Time:
Tours are 75 minutes.
Walk-ins:
Seating is limited and we are normally booked well in advance. Reservations
are strongly recommended. Others will be accommodated, first-come
first-serve, as space permits. Call (510) 498-5765 the day of the
tour for updated information on tour availability.
Restrooms:
Rest room facilities are available in the Tour Center, but not during
the 45-minute tram ride.
Dress:
Safety glasses will be issued and will fit over prescription glasses.
Visitors are asked to wear closed-toe shoes and heels under two inches.
Refreshments:
No food or drink is allowed.
Photos:
Cameras/cell phones with cameras are not allowed in the building.
Please leave them in your vehicle.
Souvenirs:
There are a limited number of items available for purchase. |
