Owner feedback about the
quality of their NUMMI-built car or truck is very important to us.
It is so important that NUMMI has an entire department called Quality
Assurance. Their primary responsibility is to ensure customer satisfaction.
QA monitors overall quality by auditing vehicles before they are delivered
to General Motors and Toyota. This involves scrutinizing specific
quality areas from fit and finish (body fit, paint chips, scratches,
dirt, dust) to chassis inspection (torque standards, electrical wiring,
radio, lights).
From this audit, QA provides standard quality measurements to each
department to help make appropriate improvements.
QA also interfaces with government and regulatory agencies regarding
compliance testing for vehicle emissions.
Finally, to emphasize to NUMMI team members the importance of quality,
QA coordinates a company-wide quality improvement program involving
a number of activities. Banners and posters are prominently displayed
throughout the plant to enhance awareness of maintaining quality in
all daily activities. |
